Why the limits are clear
A map is a whole separate map: one for your life, one for a client, one for a side project. Most people are comfortable inside 3 maps and 300 thoughts. Published ceilings keep storage and recovery costs predictable without hiding core tools behind payment.
Sync, exports and recovery deliberately stay free on every plan. Holding your own maps hostage would be a strange way to earn money.
If you downgrade
Nothing is deleted, moved, or rewritten. A seven-day grace period keeps the full workspace editable. After that, choose three active maps for full editing and sync; every other map is clearly Paused but remains readable, searchable, exportable, and deletable. Move an active map to Trash before replacing it with a paused one. Restoring Pro unlocks everything immediately.
