What’s included
- A short campaign brief for the audience, message and desired action
- A channel budget table with owners and status
- A linked budget chart, sign-up goal and go-live countdown
- A creative checklist and a simple post-campaign result vote
Start the campaign plan with one audience and one action
Write who the campaign is for in language specific enough to exclude someone. Then write the one message that matters to that audience and the one action you want them to take. If the brief needs three audiences and five calls to action, split it before assigning budget.
Make the channel plan accountable
The Channels and budget table keeps Channel, Owner, Budget and Status together. Add the real channel mix, including zero-cost channels such as email, and give each row one owner. The linked chart shows where money is committed; it does not pretend that spend equals impact.
| Campaign field | Write this down | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Audience | One recognisable group with a current need. | “Everyone” or a demographic with no problem. |
| Message | One useful promise supported by the landing page. | A different promise in every channel. |
| Target | A count and deadline, such as 500 qualified sign-ups by launch week. | “Awareness” without a measurable proxy. |
| Owner | One person responsible for the next state. | A department name that cannot answer a question. |
Let readiness block launch when it should
The creative checklist covers the landing page, approved creative, email copy and tracking links. Add legal, localisation or sales-enablement checks when they apply. The countdown creates urgency, but it should not overrule a broken landing page or missing measurement.
A webinar campaign targets operations leads and asks them to register. Paid social receives €600, influencer support €400 and email €0, each with an owner. The goal is 500 sign-ups. Three days before go-live, the countdown is healthy but the tracking-link item is still open, so the campaign is not ready. That visible contradiction is more useful than a green launch plan with no measurement.
Review the result against the original promise
After the campaign, update the target and use the result vote only as a headline. Record which audience, message and channel combination produced useful action, then choose one change for the next campaign. Preserve the original brief so the review compares the result with the plan that actually ran.

Frequently asked questions
What should a marketing campaign plan template include?
A useful plan names the audience, message, desired action, channels, owners, budget, assets, target, launch date and review. This template keeps all of them in one editable map.
Can I use this as a free campaign planning template?
Yes. It opens in the browser without an account and includes working tables, a budget chart, a goal, a countdown and checklists. Replace the sample values with your campaign.
How do I choose a marketing campaign budget?
Start from the audience, target and channels you can measure. Enter committed amounts by channel, keep zero-cost channels visible, and compare results with the original plan rather than treating the largest spend as the most important channel.
