Depth against reach
XMind has years of structural features behind it: multiple diagram layouts, fishbone and matrix structures, presentation modes and a serious desktop app. If the map itself is the deliverable, something you will present, print or hand over, that depth is worth having and HeadTidy does not match it.
HeadTidy optimises for a different moment: the thing you keep coming back to. It opens in a browser on whatever device is nearby, keeps a local copy so it works with no connection, and holds the dates and habits attached to those ideas rather than exporting them somewhere else.

Is there a HeadTidy desktop app?
No. It runs in the browser and can be installed as a web app on most devices, which gives it an icon and a window without a separate download.
Can HeadTidy open .xmind files?
No. It imports its own JSON backups. Moving an existing map across means rebuilding it, which is usually a good opportunity to shorten it.
